Spokane Tribe waits for answer from BIA on off-reservation casino

The Spokane Tribe of Washington is waiting for the Bureau of Indian Affairs to make a decision on an off-reservation casino.

The tribe submitted a land-into-trust application for 145 acres in Airway Heights. If approved, tribal leaders say they could open a casino sometime in 2013.

In addition to the BIA's approval, the state needs to agree to the casino under the two-part determination section of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
